Go Car-Free
Santa Barbara is a pedestrian- and cycling-friendly town. Unlike most cities in California, you can actually get around easily without a car. And your conscience will feel extra clear if you use public transportation because the shuttles are electric! In fact, the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District boasts North America's largest fleet of electric vehicles.
The coolest resource for our eco-friendly visitors is the Santa Barbara Car Free Project. This award-winning cooperative program created by the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District presents car-free alternatives for travel to and from Santa Barbara and a guide to experiencing and exploring Santa Barbara car-free. It doesn't matter if you come by plane, train or automobile, you don't need to get behind the wheel once you're here! The SantaBarbaraCarFree.org website offers maps and walking tour itineraries, Amtrak discounts, car-free resources and special vacation packages. Check it out to see how you can save money and save the environment!
