Remember when you were a kid and something WOW’d you? Discover that magic of wonder through art, culture, nature, and science at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and Ty Warner Sea Center. Explore the arctic ecosystems including the coast, tundra, mountains, taiga, boreal forests, 18 major rivers, two large lakes, and warm springs in Arctic Sanctuary at the Museum (open through January 8, 2012). Take a picturesque voyage to the southern colonies of British North America in the 18th century in Mark Catesby: Picturing the New World in the Maximus Gallery (open through January 1, 2012). View often misunderstood land and sea creatures with dangerous reputations and learn just how fascinating they really are in Dazzling & Dangerous at the Sea Center. Go on cosmic quest into outer space in the Gladwin Planetarium or simply immerse yourself in serenity along Mission Creek at the Museum or the majesty of the Pacific Ocean on Stearns Wharf.
ABOUT THE MUSEUM Located just beyond the Old Mission, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History offers visitors of all ages a chance to discover and reconnect with nature. Visit informative exhibit halls about birds, insects, mammals, marine life, paleontology, geology, and the Chumash Indians. Walk through the Maximus Art Gallery - one of the few museums that combines history, science, nature, and art. Read a book in the Museum's Library. Explore and hike the Nature Trail and The Museum Backyard along Mission Creek. Experience the excitement of space exploration in the Space Lab and Gladwin Planetarium. Discover the wonders of Earth, Moon, Mars & Beyond with the Magic Planet. Purchase mementos and unique gifts at the Museum Store.
Open Daily 10 AM-5 PM. Closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day and the last Saturday of June for the annual Santa Barbara Wine FestivalTM. Admission: Adults $10; Teens/Seniors $7; Children (2-12 years) $6. Parking is free. Get the SB Nature Pass and visit both the Museum and Sea Center.
