The latest series of exhibits featuring seldom-seen highlights from the Anthropology collections. Two rare items featured are a Lakota Winter Count depicting significant events in the years 1798-99 through 1904-05, and a unique Cheyenne coat painted with depictions of a horse raid. They are joined by many colorful beaded bags, moccasins and other artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries.  See webside for further schedule details.

SHARKS...Bite Size showcases some of the smaller sharks found in the Santa Barbara Channel. come face-to-face with these marine predators and visit them at the touch pool. Learn facts about their struggle for survival and the impact humans have on sharks, the oceans and our planet.

Presentation by a local commercial fisherman on how they catch finfish (White seabass, black cod or halibut), followed by a talk about the species. Afterwards there will be cooking demonstrations and tastings by three local chefs, including Michael Hutchings, along with wine tastings, including Deep Sea Winery, and olive tastings featuring Olivos Del Mar. Tickets for both events (Oct. 2, 23) are $40 for SBMM members and $60 for nonmembers

With his record Grand Ukulele, Shimabukuro's star has been burning brighter than ever. An ambitious follow-up to 2011's Peace, Love, Ukulele (which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard World Charts), the Hawaiian musician's record found him collaborating with legendary producer/engineer Alan Parsons, best known for his work on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, The Beatles' Abbey Road and his own highly successful solo project.

UCSB Arts & Lectures: The Magic of Winning

One of the most decorated players in the history of the NBA, Magic Johnson won five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, was selected three times as NBA Most Valuable Player and was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal "Dream Team." He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. Since retiring from professional basketball, Magic has turned his attention to entrepreneurship and is a leading spokesperson on HIV education.
