There are as many quotes about wines as there are wines themselves, but the Roman poet Horace may have said it best: Wine brings to light the hidden secrets of the soul, gives being to our hopes and teaches new means for the accomplishment of our wishes. Though our wine chops weren't as widely known before the Oscar®-winning film Sideways shone a spotlight on Santa Barbara (download a free self-guided-tour map of filming locations), regional vineyards have yielded award-winning wines since the 70s, and today oenophiles around the world raise a glass to the quality of vintages that spring from Santa Barbara soil.
Yes, it really is that good, thanks again to our unique climate and lay of the land: east-west mountains rise along the coast, opening warm-weather valleys to Pacific breezes that cool the grapes and create an unusually long growing season.
