Lompoc

Enjoy a scenic drive along country roads lined with vineyards and wildflowers that lead to the town of Lompoc. Hop aboard the Lompoc-Surf Amtrak train for a beautiful coastal ride into town. Or fly into the Santa Maria airport, just a short 30-minute drive away from downtown Lompoc.

Take full advantage of the outdoors in this charming town, from the skies to the sea to land. Go skydiving for an unforgettable thrill experience where you’ll not only get your heart racing, but also see incredible views of Santa Barbara County and the Channel Islands during the flight climb. Experienced surfers, get your thrills on Jalama’s renowned southeastern swells. And while you’re there, don’t miss your chance to grab a famous Jalama burger. As any local can tell you, there’s nothing better than feeding your appetite with a burger on the beach.

If you’d rather keep your feet on the ground, get in a round of golf, cycle the River Bend bike path or hike the paths at La Purisima Mission State Park.

If you’ve got an interest in local history, take a self-guided tour of restored La Purisima Mission State Park, which dates back to the 1820s and has 10 furnished original buildings to explore. Or walk down historic South H Street under the beautiful Italian stone pines for a visit to the Lompoc Museum housed in the 1911 Carnegie Library. A short mile away is the Artesia one-room schoolhouse that dates back to 1876. After the sun sets, enjoy an orchestra concert or live theater performance at the Lompoc Civic Theatre.

Of course, a trip to the Central Coast is never complete without a little wine tasting. Visit myriad wine tasting rooms hidden inside industrial warehouses in the Lompoc Wine Ghetto, where you’ll find one of the seven sparkling wine labels produced in the county. Take wine tasting to the next level and relish an afternoon at Babcock Winery, which once received a prestigious James Beard Award as one of “the top 10 small production winemakers in the world.”
